Do you find yourself struggling to remember names, facts and experiences? Do you feel more and more overwhelmed with the amount of information you are expected to remember?  Do you want to discover ways to improve your memory?

Well, you are not alone.  Most people, at one time or another, have struggled with these issues.  The good news is that there are some simple, yet powerful ways to harness the enormous power of your mind, and to improve your memory straight away.  Read on and learn how to get your memory working for you, rather than against you!

Firstly, why do we find it difficult to remember things?  The main reason is that we often don’t ‘attach’ new memories to existing ones.  In other words, we don’t file them away properly so that we can recall them later on.  It is a bit like keeping loose notes, bills and other important bits of paper all jumbled up in a kitchen drawer.  A much better approach is to store them alphabetically in a filing cabinet so that we know immediately where to go when we want to retrieve them.

It is much the same thing with your mind and memories.  By creating a ‘mental filing cabinet’ in which to store your new memories, you will be far more likely to retain them, thereby improving your memory.

A very effective way to do this is to harness the ‘Power of Association’.  By associating a new memory with a vivid image, or picture, particularly if it is something meaningful to you, you will be almost guaranteed to remember it.

Let’s say that a friend of yours introduces you to a man for the first time by saying “I’d like you to meet Mr Heard.”  You notice that he has very large ears which remind you of the wings of a bird.  Straightaway, you have drawn a strong association between ‘bird’ and ‘Heard’ using a vivid image of large wings (ears!).

The next time you meet Mr Heard, that association will immediately come to mind as your mind recalls the sequence of ears…bird…Heard.  Try this out next time you meet someone new.  Take a moment or two to pick out something significant such as the colour of their hair, style of clothes or anything else that ‘stands out’ which you can link to their name.

With a bit of practice, using the power of association to improve your memory will become second nature and can also be a lot of fun!
